THE 11TH HYBRID (VIRTUAL/PHYSICAL) ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF UGANDA REINSURANCE COMPANY

The Uganda Reinsurance Company recently convened a landmark Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 8, 2024, at Protea Hotel in Kampala. This pivotal gathering brought together key stakeholders and luminaries from the insurance sector. The AGM’s agenda was multifaceted: it provided an opportunity to review the company’s operational performance for the current fiscal year, reflect on achievements, and strategize for enhancing insurance operations in the forthcoming financial year of 2024/2025.

In a momentous event, Prof. Twaha Kigongo Kaawaase, the Chairman of Uganda Re, extended a warm welcome to shareholders and delegates at the 11th hybrid AGM. He offered an insightful retrospective on the company’s journey, tracing its inception to a visionary idea in 1998 and its formal establishment in 2000. Prof. Kaawaase shared a personal reflection, expressing that his tenure as Chairman since October 4, 2016, has been a profound honor. He also announced the 2024 AGM would mark his final session as Chairman Board.

Ronald Musoke – CEO of Uganda Re, took the stage to shed light on the industry’s performance in 2023. He noted the economy’s robust recovery, which saw a resurgence of full-scale economic activities across all sectors, despite persistent high operational costs and stable fuel prices. Musoke underscored the insurance industry’s resilience, which was evident in an impressive provisional growth rate of 11% over the previous year. He also provided a concise overview of Uganda Re’s financial performance for 2023 to the assembled shareholders and delegates.

A significant transition unfolded at the AGM as Dr. Joyce Namirimo Tamale was introduced as the incoming Chairperson of the Board, succeeding Prof. Kaawaase. Her appointment marks a new chapter in the leadership and direction of Uganda Reinsurance Company.
