Uganda Re Donates Mattresses to Mulago Hospital to Support Overwhelmed Casualty Ward

The casualty ward at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala continues to face an immense daily patient load, receiving over 60 new emergency cases and around four unidentified accident victims brought in by police each day. All these patients require urgent surgical care, placing significant pressure on the hospital’s resources and capacity.

In a show of solidarity and compassion, Uganda Re, under the leadership of CEO Ronald Musoke and the Management team, has donated mattresses to the hospital to help ease patient congestion and improve resting conditions, particularly during peak periods when the facility is stretched beyond capacity.

Expressing her appreciation, Dr. Rosemary Byanyima, the Executive Director of Mulago Hospital, commended Uganda Re for its thoughtful and timely gesture. She noted that the hospital, despite operating at full capacity, never turns away patients in need of care. The donated mattresses, she added, will provide much-needed relief and comfort for patients awaiting treatment.

Dr. Byanyima further revealed that the hospital conducts between eight and ten major trauma-related surgeries every day, with each procedure costing approximately UGX 3 million.

During a guided tour of the casualty ward, Dr. Teddy Tracy Gayita offered a firsthand look into the demanding environment in which the medical staff operate. She highlighted the dedication of the healthcare workers and the ongoing need for additional support to enhance service delivery and patient care.

Speaking on behalf of Uganda Re, the company reaffirmed its commitment to uplifting the wellbeing of Ugandans through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. This donation to Mulago Hospital reflects Uganda Re’s broader mission to make a positive and lasting impact on communities across the country.

We remain dedicated to giving back and creating sustainable change where it’s needed most.Through such initiatives, Uganda Re continues to demonstrate that corporate responsibility goes beyond business. It’s about community, compassion, and care.
