Uganda Re Participates in ICOGU Energy Symposium 2025 & Albertine Progress Review

Uganda Re was honored to participate in the ICOGU Energy Symposium 2025, organized by the Uganda Insurers Association at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel. Centered around the theme “The Role of Insurance in the Energy Transition,” the symposium provided a platform for insurance professionals, energy experts and key stakeholders to explore how the industry can support the shift toward sustainable energy.

Jonan Kisakye, CEO of Uganda Insurers Association, officially opened the symposium, emphasizing the critical role of insurers in managing risks and promoting sustainable practices within the energy sector. He highlighted the need for the industry to adapt to ongoing changes and actively contribute to climate-conscious economic growth.

During a panel discussion, Ronald Musoke, CEO of Uganda Re and ICOGU Consortium Manager, highlighted the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda’s directive for major energy related risks like Contractors All Risks (CAR), Third Party Liabilities (TPL) and Marine/Goods in Transit to be insured through the ICOGU Consortium. He explained that Uganda Re, as the consortium manager, represents 19 insurers, identifies key insurance opportunities and oversees collected funds. To date, 46 lines have been subscribed, totaling approximately USD 2.3 million. Insurers can participate by purchasing up to six lines, each valued at USD 50,000, based on 5% of their capital and free reserves. Additionally, he shared insights from Uganda Re’s benchmarking efforts in Nigeria and Ghana and plans to continue learning from Angola, Mozambique, and other markets to strengthen Uganda’s insurance capacity in the oil and gas sector.

Following the symposium, Uganda Re participated in key industry activities including: Oil & Gas ICOGU Member Training on Renewable Energy Risks where our CEO, Ronald Musoke and Head of Technical Operations, Andrew Kawuzi, attended training sessions led by industry experts Richard Scott ACIl, Bashir Akinsiku, and Andrew Cartwright, focusing on risk management in renewable energy.
