Uganda Re Board and Senior Management Team Embarks on a Learning Visit to Nigerian Oil and Gas Reinsurance Market
The Board and Senior Management team of Uganda Re undertook a learning visit, engaging with key stakeholders in Nigeria’s oil and gas reinsurance market. This visit was part of Uganda Re’s strategic initiative to gain insights and explore opportunities to strengthen its position within the evolving Ugandan energy sector.
Dangote Industries Limited’s headquarters
The primary objective of the visit was to understand the operational dynamics, challenges and opportunities within one of Africa’s largest and most important industries. A highlight of the visit was a productive discussion with prominent Nigerian businessman and industrialist, Aliko Dangote, at Dangote Industries Limited’s headquarters in Lagos.
As the founder of Dangote Petroleum & Petrochemicals Refinery, Aliko Dangote provided valuable perspectives on the operational landscape of his company, one of Africa’s largest oil and gas ventures. The conversation explored the innovations and strategic challenges that drive Dangote’s success in the sector, offering Uganda Re critical insights into the complexities and potential opportunities within the oil and gas industry.
This engagement represents a significant step in Uganda Re’s efforts to expand its understanding and strengthen its presence in the oil and gas reinsurance sector, positioning the company as a key player in Uganda’s growing energy landscape.
Throughout our visit to the Nigerian Insurance and Petroleum sectors, the Uganda Re team also held constructive discussions with other key reinsurers, including African Reinsurance Corporation and Continental Reinsurance. Both organizations play a pivotal role in Africa’s oil and gas projects, with Africa Re managing the African Oil & Gas Pool and the Nigerian Oil & Energy Pool.
As the manager of the Insurance Consortium for Oil and Gas Uganda (ICOGU), Uganda Re aimed to learn from Africa Re’s experience in managing these pools and their related structures
